Back At It Again...

Here's a beginning. I don't know if it's August, September, December... or if that really much matters just now. It feels really good to be back beading, even though there really is NO TIME for it now.

We did sell our house, finally, and with a great deal of ugliness and dishonesty on the part of the buyers. Real estate is not for the likes of me, who wants to just deal straightforwardly and above board. We have 30 days to vacate, no slack permitted. We have no house to vacate to. We almost bought a place, but today's inspection revealed the need for not only a new roof and some wiring, but complete re-plumbing! Too rich for our blood, and not enough time to get it all done anyway... We had to pay almost $600 to find all this out, of course -- my classes for Bead Expo, now up in smoke. So, if I ever thought I knew fear before... no, I did not. Our only prospect at the moment is a very beautiful little house in a great location that is about a mile too small for us. Maybe we can shoehorn ourselves in, and maybe we can build a little studio building out in the back... And, of course, we don't yet know if there are any surprises there for us to discover.

This has truly been the worst year of my life so far. There have been bright spots, to be sure, but one of the brightest consistently has been BJP. I haven't been good at keeping up, and I don't post as often as I'd like. However, it is very inspiring to me to see everyone's work and to be working along also. The beading is truly good for my soul, and helps keep me anchored to the ground.

What a great beginning, love the fossel cab.

My husband has been a Realtor for over 8 years and sometimes it can be a nasty business. Hope everyting works out for you, and you find just the right house for your needs.

It may sound trite but for every bad thing that happens, a good thing will follow. That's my philosophy and I'm sticking to it!

Hang in there, Lois -- better stuff is coming down the road for you. It's good to see you beading again . . .

A beautiful beginning. :) I empathize with your real estate woes. I agree with Kathy V that something good is on the horizon!

I'm glad to see you're back to beading Lois ! Your current piece looks very promising.

18 months ago, I had a terrible time and had to move to a place half the size the one before with my kids. It's a really tiny place, but it's in a good area. I know I can't stay here forever and that some people may think it's a misfortune for me. I happen to be fond of this place and thankful to have got myself out of trouble. When I was younger there was this French song that went "what do we care so long as we love each other, the rain may fall in" and that American song that went "don't worry, be happy".

Hope things turn out good for your family and you.

I my humble opinion it is not time to buy but to rent. You should feel lucky that you got out our your house and you have a lot of options opened up for you. I think prices will only fall. People use to think that renting was throwing away money. But now with housing prices making the monthly payment almost twice what you can rent the same house for it it penny wise and pound foolish to buy.
Check out the blog
housingpanic.blogspot.com and read what is happening in the housing market.
No point in getting stuck in something you don't want to be in. Better to have lots of time to look around before leaping.

I love your page but would like to know if there is some meaning behind the fossil. Why did you use that this month? That is a really nice fossil.

Maybe the ancient trilobite you feature in your bead embroidery has some significance for you right now, this month. Is it about resilience, the way life finds a way to get through the hardships of time? Once the trilobite was a live critter, now it comes "alive" again in your piece. In other words, we bounce back. And you will too, sooner rather than later I hope. Hugs, Robin

Thanks for your encouragement! I initially chose the trillobite because it was a but smashed and I was feeling the same way... but once I had the bezel around it, it seemed more alive. It likes my colors, I guess. And I really enjoy having this organic form to look at and work with. I know things will work out, one way or another, and I'm keeping on track, whatever that is, looking for more possible places. A very good suggestion was made that we look to rent rather than buy. I'm not opposed to that, but we do cat rescue, and I have not been able to find a landlord willing to have 12 feral cats on the property. :- ) Today we go out to drive past some of the houses and check out neighborhoods, etc. The search goes on!

good luck with your house hunting...and your next piece...prices are coming down but it's still hard, hard work finding a new house when you have a time constraint!

I love that you have a trilobite as the focus of this piece. I have a geology background and they are my favorite fossil. They have always seemed to be the epitome of extinction and evolution to me and maybe that is what drew you to using one this month. Being forced to move, feeling squashed by the process, is definitely an extinction of the life you had and now moving onward, finding a new path, a new place, a new way is possibly your evolution. I wish you the best in these changes and hope you find a place soon.

I think this piece is very beautiful. Until this project, I didn't realize how much peace and healing beading could bring to the more chaotic aspects of life.

Know what you mean about favoring straightforward actions and honesty. It can be so disruptive to encounter folks with a very different type of perspective. Wishing you luck, especially since you need it under duress!

I hope that things work out for you, Lois. You truly did have a terrible year, and luckily it's almost over, so you can look forward to a new beginning. And I'm glad you're back to beading, let the healing begin...

I can see your anxiety in looking for a house to rent and feeling the call to help rescue feral cats. One of our best cats that we had was a feral cat that we nursed with a bottle. I would take another one if I were in a good place to have a cat. I hope something turns up for you.
